The Best Accredited Ultrasound Technician Schools
In countries all over the world, education takes a forefront in contingency plans for the next ten or more years. Different studies find out what percentage of the population actually reaches and finishes a college or vocational education. These statistics end up reflecting the abilities of the work force, as well as the quality of education the population is receiving. Each year, the number of accredited ultrasound technician schools goes up – adding more capable sonographers to the US work force by the end of 2014 and the start of 2015.

Accredited Sonography Schools
An ultrasound tech is an occupation wherein a person has to study anywhere between 12 months to four years of college-level education before being called a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. A person does not have to finish sonography training from an accredited school, but it is highly encouraged by high-ranking sonography organizations and the government. A complete list of accredited ultrasound technician schools in 2015 can be seen after clicking the link. This list was recently updated in January 2015, showing more than 200 schools that have been CAAHEP-accredited.
There are three main categories for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program based on how long training lasts – 12 months for a certificate, 2 years for an associate degree, and 4 years for a bachelor degree. The maximum residency rule in most schools is six years, meaning a student can spend up to six years in the school to finish his/her degree. Certificate programs can take as long as 18 months to complete, but usually no longer than that.
The other set of categories focuses on specialty – mainly four: (1) general, (2) pediatric cardiac, (3) cardiac, and (4) vascular. Visit www.UltrasoundTechnicianCenter.org for additional information.

Distance Education for Sonographers
With the rising popularity of the internet, education has become more accessible in the United States. A lot of major schools are offering various programs online. Students no longer have to leave the comfort of their home to receive college education. There are three accredited online ultrasound schools in the United States, found in Kansas, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The latest sonography school directory includes these online programs.
The Choice
If a prospective sonography program student has to make a choice regarding his or her education, the best choice would always be accredited ultrasound technician schools. Accredited programs cost more or less the same as unaccredited programs in sonography – so why take a risk with an unaccredited program? You receive better education and training from CAAHEP-accredited programs, hence more lenient requirements when applying for an ARDMS or CCI certification exam. Learning sonography from a good school will pay off in the long run.
