Community Colleges Offer Ultrasound Technician Programs
What community colleges offer ultrasound technician programs in 2015? In the US, community colleges offer ultrasound technician programs all year around. On a wider scale, sonography education programs can be found in 208 schools all over the country in 2014, and exactly 52 of them happen to be community colleges. While there are a number of financial aid programs offered to students who are studying sonography this coming 2015, not everybody can be granted a scholarship.
The next best thing is to enroll in sonography training in a community college, where the school tuition is low and the fees typically include books and nothing else. Community colleges offer ultrasound technician programs to increase the accessibility of sonography education to members of society who could otherwise be unable to afford a private college or university.
Diagnostic Medical Sonography Education
Sonography training is not a vocational course, though it may seem to be. Students can only become certified sonographers after studying sonography in college in one of three ways – certificate programs, associate degree programs, and bachelor degree programs. These programs last one, two, and four years each respectively. Furthermore, a student has to choose among general, cardiac, vascular, and pediatric cardiac sonography specialties.
Community Colleges
Community colleges are popular choices for students because they are closer to home and are very affordable. Because sonography is a medical course, the expenses can be high due to clinical training needs such as medical supplies and uniforms. This makes community colleges very attractive to new high school graduates – even more if the student is able to secure a scholarship or grant. After a Community College Sonography Program
The listed community colleges, all 27 of them, offer sonography programs that have been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Because these schools are accredited ultrasound technician schools, they will prepare sonography students to sit for sonography certification exams. These exams are offered by the ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) and CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International). A sonography is not mandated by law to take a certification exam, but it is highly encouraged and will increase your chances of getting a job over other competition.
